HBO Cancels ‘Hello Ladies’ and Christopher Guest’s ‘Family Tree’

HBO Family Tree Hello Ladies Canceled
HBO

Boy, that HBO sure doesn’t worry about burning a hole in its original programming slate, does it? In the same year that promises an end to ‘True Blood,’ ‘Boardwalk Empire‘ and ‘The Newsroom,’ HBO has officially canceled future seasons of Stephen Merchant’s dramedy ‘Hello Ladies,’ as well as Christopher Guest’s ‘Family Tree.’ Do any of HBO’s off-season shows have future seasons ahead?

On the plus side at least, HBO will wrap up the story of ‘Hello Ladies’ with a final installment special, similar to the ending of Ricky Gervais‘ Warwick Davis comedy ‘Life’s Too Short.’ Prospects at least look good for a second season of HBO’s ‘Getting On,’ which earned strong critical praise for its difficult subject material of a hospice ward, along with its leading ladies Alex Borstein, Niecy Nash and Laurie Metcalfe.

Airing last summer, ‘Family Tree’ starred Chris O’Dowd as an unemployed and single 30-year-old attempting to uncover his lineage and track down his real family after a recently deceased, unknown great aunt leaves him a mysterious box. Boasting such guest alum as Don Lake, Fred Willard, Michael McKean and Ed Begley Jr., the series also included Tom Bennett, Nina Conti, Carrie Aizley, Bob Balaban, Maria Blasucci, Matt Griesser, Lisa Palfrey, Jim Piddock (who also writes), Kevin Pollak, Amy Seimetz, Meera Syal and Ashley Walters.

At the very least, HBO still has ‘Looking‘ and Mike Judge’s upcoming ‘Silicon Valley‘ for comedy development, but what say you? Will you miss either ‘Family Tree’ or ‘Hello Ladies?’
