Golf Course’s September 11 Promotion Goes Terribly Wrong
Sometimes you can commemorate an anniversary with a special sale, but when it comes to the anniversary of an attack on our country where thousands of people lost their lives it’s best to proceed with caution.
Unfortunately, Tumbledown Trails Golf Course in Verona, Wisconsin learned this the hard way. Its marketing department, or lack of said department, came up with a controversial promotion — nine holes and a cart for $9.11. The newspaper ad went viral on social media, and things escalated quickly for the golf course.

According to WJLA, the course posted an apology on its Facebook page about the whole thing:
We would first like to apologize to everyone that we have upset or feels we have disrespected in anyway. By no means did we mean to do this.
Here is what we will do this Wednesday 9-11;
we will still let all that have tee times booked play for the previous rates we posted.
Then for all other golf that day we would like to donate the $ difference between our normal rate and the previous price for the day to the 9/11 Memorial.
We hope that everyone will now see this as a positive as we really meant it to be. Again we do sincerely apologize for offending anyone & hope that you do accept our sincere apology.
Most of the comments that followed were still angry, but some people came to the course’s defense. Tumbledown Trails also noted that it may not be open at all on Wednesday, because it’s afraid people may retaliate. It also apologized for the inconvenience
