Fire Destroys Newburgh Shops on “Small Business Saturday”

Small Business Saturday started as a tragedy for several Newburgh businesses

in the Sharon Place shopping center near State Street and Sharon Road in Newburgh.

The fire broke out shortly after 2 AM and before it was over, about 60 firefighters were on the scene.

Firefighters said that the fire started in the central part of the building and spread quickly through the nine businesses housed in the center. Those businesses include:

All Sewn Up, The Rug Gallery, Tan Evolution, Newburgh Learning Center, Make Time to Create, Acceptance Capital Mortgage Corporation, and River Ridge Church of Christ. An additional space had just been leased for a new shop that had not yet moved in.
