You may think the only thing prisoners do while incarcerated is lift weights, start fights and well, other horrifying things. However, some of those doing time in Terre Haute, Indiana are helping to raise thousands of fish for a couple of Indiana fish-stocking initiatives.

Starting this week, the Indiana Department of Natural Resources says it will relocate about 5,000 catfish to the Federal Correctional facility’s indoor fish-growing campus, where inmates will raise the fish to be released next summer in urban lakes all across Indiana.

According to representatives of the DNR, the goal of the fish-stocking initiative is to make fishing more accessible for citizens living in some of Indiana’s metropolitan areas.

The DNR reports that inmates will also be responsible for raising walleye, which the initiative plans to stock in northern Indiana lakes starting next fall.
