From the office of Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke

The Evansville Water & Sewer Utility (EWSU) is preparing for the start of three construction projects that will impact traffic near construction zones on the city’s North, East and West sides. In the meantime, work is progressing on a sewer lining project on the City’s Southeast Side.

New Construction Projects

ESWU is ready to start the relocation of a waterline around an existing bridge just east of the intersection of Broadway Avenue and Johnson Lane on the City’s West Side. The waterline relocation is part a utility relocation effort to create room for the County to replace a bridge at that location. The work will take four weeks to complete at a cost of approximately $100,000.

Waterline replacement work is set to begin on the City’s North Side along Kratzville Road from Mill Road west to Hobart Avenue. The work is the continuation of a project that started in 2012. The construction is expected to continue through March 2015 and cost approximately $800,000.

Work will begin in the next few weeks on a sewer extension along Plaza Drive on Evansville’s East Side. The project is intended to alleviate sanitary sewer overflow during rain events. The work is part of the Capacity, Maintenance, Operations, and Maintenance (CMOM) responsibilities of the Federal Consent Decree. Construction is anticipated to take four weeks. The cost is approximately $100,000.

Sewer Lining Project

The third phase of a sewer lining project is continuing on the City’s Southeast Side. A total of 10,000 feet will be cleaned and lined during this phase to increase sewer serviceability. The targeted area is suspected of having roots growing in pipes, faulty pipes and bad joints. The project will mitigate costs by cleaning and lining sewer pipes before they fail. The total amount of sewers lined this year will be 25,000 feet at an estimated cost of $1.2 million.
