Lace up your running shoes and be a part of the the Evansville Parks Foundation's first ever Adopt-An-Ash 5K on Wednesday, October 26th to help save the ash trees at Oak Hill Cemetery from the Emerald Ash Borer.

The Emerald Ash Borer is an insect that burrows itself between the bark and the first layer of wood in an ash tree to lay it's eggs. The baby Borers then feed off the tree, cutting off the supply lines the tree uses to absorb water and nutrients causing them to die. Ash Borer infestations have been known to kill millions of trees over the years across the Midwest and Canada, including here in the Tri-State.

The Parks Foundation introduced the Adopt-An-Ash program earlier this year as a way to get the community involved in helping preserve ash trees in the area, many of which are located within Oak Hill Cemetery.

The 5K on October 26th is open to runners and walkers of all ages and skill levels. Registration is $20 per person, and can be done online. Children 10 and under are free.
