Evansville Department of Parks and Recreation employees are busy this week preparing the city’s public pools for the 2016 swimming season. Mosby and Rochelle-Landers pools have been filled with water. Parks Department Executive Director Brian Holtz said crews will finish filling Garvin and Hartke pools and will then start on Lorraine Pool. Helfrich Pool will be filled next week.

While the city is getting pools ready for summer, a hiring blitz continues for part-time employees to work at the pools. One of the biggest need is for trained lifeguards. Lifeguards must be certified and at least 15-years-old to work at city pools. The Parks Department will offer a lifeguard certification class at Lloyd Pool for those interested in training.

The lifeguard certification class will begin on Monday, May 16. Lifeguard candidates must attend all classes to qualify for employment. The cost $135.00. Call Lloyd Pool at 812-435-6085 to pre-register.

Holtz said the Parks Department has several other jobs open at city pools, including cashiers and neighborhood pool manager. For more information on summer jobs at the Parks Department, visit the City of Evansville website at www.evansville.in.gov and click the “Employment” tab on the homepage.
