For the next several weeks, the Evansville Public Libraries are hosting free classes to teach you how to handle an active shooter situation and provide basic first aid.

We all hope and pray we never find ourselves in an active shooter situation, but it's always a possibility. Don't you want to be as prepared as possible?

The Active Shooter Training and Stop the Bleed classes continue through the first part of April at various Evansville Library branches. The classes are free and there's no need to register, but there is a limit of 40 participants per class and it's first come first served. Members of the EVPL's Human Resources/Organizational Development staff will share the "hide, run, fight program" when faced with an active shooter.

Times vary from location to the next. The remaining class schedule is below.

  • Saturday, March 24th from 9:00 am - 10:00 am at EVPL Red Bank
  • Tuesday, March 27th from 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm at EVPL North Park
  • Saturday, March 31st from 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm at EVPL Oaklyn
  • Monday, April 2nd from 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm at EVPL Central
