It appears as if a foregoing plan by the Evansville Convention and Visitors Bureau to construct a softball/baseball mega facility might get another opportunity to run the bases.

Earlier this year, the bureau hired VPS Architecture to administer a study for the purpose of determining whether or not there were any local sports opportunities worth investing in a large-scale athletic facility – considering both improvements to existing facilities and brand-new development.

Bureau Executive Bob Warren says now that the study is complete, the numbers suggests that an eight-field softball/baseball complex to be built on 60 acres is the best route for their investment.

According to Warren, the basic project will cost somewhere between $10 million to $13 million.

While a location for the proposed project has not yet been released, Warren said that the CVB’s plan does not include utilizing the Roberts Stadium property, as the bureau proposed in an earlier bid.
