Sherman Greer, Director of the Emergency Management Agency was our guest on Wednesdays With Winnecke. This week is Earthquake Awareness Week, and Mr. Greer joined us to discuss what we can and should do to prepare for an earthquake or other natural disasters.

Evansville is located on and near several fault lines, and the fact is, at some point we will have a sizeable earthquake. We’ve had a few over the years, but have stayed below 5.0 in scale and have not caused too much damage. Despite predictions of the past, we really have no way of knowing where or when a big earthquake will happen…but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be prepared.

To begin preparing for an earthquake, or a disaster of any kind, Greer suggests getting an “All Hazards Kit” together. This kit should include non-perishable foods, water, blankets, fresh clothes, a fire extinguisher and other items. Greer goes on to discuss how much of these supplies we should have…plus what we should do, at home or at work, in the event of an earthquake.

Please take a few minutes and listen to the show below, as there is a lot of great information provided.
