After years of planning and construction, Evansville's newest youth baseball park opened its doors on Saturday with the help of members from both the City and County Councils, as well as the CEO of Deaconess, and Mayor Lloyd Winnecke.

The new Deaconess Sports Park features eight baseball fields along with batting cages and concession stands. It's only purpose, to host youth baseball tournaments featuring teams from all corners of the Midwest.

Saturday's dedication ceremony opened with the Deaconess Life Flight helicopter landing in the outfield of one field followed by brief speeches from Mayor Winnecke, Deaconess President and CEO, Linda White, County Commissioner Bruce Ungethiem, County Council President Angela Koehler Lindsey, and others before each was given the chance to throw out a ceremonial first pitch on one of the fields.
