Dangerous Cobra Gets Loose at New York’s Bronx Zoo, Is Still Missing
A highly poisonous Egyptian cobra got loose this weekend at New York’s Bronx Zoo, sending guests, zoo neighbors and zookeepers alike into a nervous tizzy. The 20 inch-long snake forced the zoo to shut down and stay closed through Sunday.
Zoo officials released a statement, saying, “Based on our knowledge of the natural history and behavior of snakes, we know they seek closed-in spaces and are not comfortable in open areas.”
They went on to say that the snake is inside of a zoo building that’s not accessible to the public and will take whatever necessary steps to ensure public safety. The missing cobra’s exact whereabouts are still unknown and the reptile exhibit remains closed until further notice.
