CW Wonder Woman Drama ‘Amazon’ Officially Dead, ‘Flash’ Future Looking Good

CW Wonder Woman Amazon TV Series Dead Flash Spinoff
DC Comics

It’s been a long time since we heard anything from The CW’s potential Wonder Woman prequel series ‘Amazon,’ the length of which has seen ‘Arrow‘ forming its own likely ‘Flash‘ spinoff while Gal Gadot assumes the role of the Amazonian princess in 2015′s ‘Batman Vs. Superman,’ but it seems the CW’s incarnation has been officially grounded.

Speaking at the recent CW panel during the Television Critics Association press tour, network president Mark Pedowitz confirmed that development had halted on the project, though the decision had little to do with developments of DC’s live-action films and TV series over the course of 2013. And while Wonder Woman has been confirmed for a cinematic debut in ‘Batman Vs. Superman,’ Pedowitz expressed the possibility that future ‘Wonder Woman’ TV projects could still make it off the ground:

It all depends on the script. We were very careful with Arrow and we’re being very careful with Flash. These are iconic characters so we’re going to be very careful with Wonder Woman. You only get one shot before you get bit.

The initial pilot script was written by Allan Heinberg (‘Grey’s Anatomy,’ ‘The O.C.’), who also dabbled in writing the ‘Young Avengers’ comics, while a new draft was penned by ‘Heroes’ writer Aron Eli Coleite. Even then, Pedowitz later said of the second draft “the script isn’t quite where we want it. It’s an iconic DC character and we’re not going to put it on unless it works. And now having the DC universe, the origins of Black Canary coming on [Arrow] this year, as well as the potential origins of The Flash, it’s better to wait and get it right.”

Speaking of ‘The Flash,’ Pedowitz had few updates to offer of a potential pickup for the ‘Arrow’ spinoff, claiming to be “bullish” about the prospect as he said “rather than try to squeeze in a spinoff,” he preferred to launch the character “with a bang like we launched Arrow.”

Disappointing (if expected) news for ‘Amazon,’ but what say you? Would you want to see Wonder Woman given the TV treatment once more, or will Gal Gadot’s cinematic version suffice? How confident are you in the CW’s potential ‘Flash’ TV series?
