After a rash of injuries to the defensive secondary, the Indianapolis Colts have turned to veteran cornerback, Antonio Cromartie, to help bolster the cornerback unit.

With reports earlier this week of Vontae Davis missing the first month of the regular season due to what Coach Chuck Pagano called a "medial sprain" in his ankle, in addition to injuries to offseason free agent signee Patrick Robertson, veteran Darius Butler, and second-year player D'Joun Smith among a lengthy list of others, the signing of four-time Pro Bowler Cromartie wasn't a luxury signing. It was a necessary one.

Over his 15 seasons, Cromartie has been considered one of the top players at his position since being drafted by the Chargers in 2006. However, his production slipped a bit last season, his only one with the Jets, as he recorded the second lowest number of tackles since his rookie season. In an interview with Scout.com's Connor Hughes back in December, Cromartie attributed the low number to not being 100-percent healthy over the opening part of the season.

The Colts are ponying up (no pun intended) $3 million for the one-year deal with $250,000 guaranteed and $500,000 in incentives with the hope last year was the exception to the rule when it comes to his play on the field.
