Mayor Winnecke named Kimron Reising and Timothy Weir as Co-Directors of the Commission on Homelessness for Evansville and Vanderburgh County (the Commission) at the organization’s May meeting. In this volunteer role, Mr. Reising and Mr. Weir will work together to provide leadership for the Commission, a group of individuals with a vested interest in ending homelessness. The Commission includes representatives of local non-profit organizations, homeless services agencies, local government, housing industry and others. The Commission was formed in 2005 to direct City of Evansville and Vanderburgh County initiatives to end homelessness in the community. It will continue to provide leadership for local implementation of national programs and resources that address homelessness, as well as lead local initiatives focused on improving housing options, homeless services, community-wide processes, prevention efforts, and related homeless topics.

“The passion, experience and dedication that Kimron and Timothy bring to their shared leadership role will enable them to provide The Commission on Homelessness with continuity, vision and strategic direction as we continue the journey of ending homelessness in Evansville and Vanderburgh County,” said Mayor Winnecke.

Kimron Reising had spent the past six years as Executive Director of United Caring Services and continues to serve as chair the Homeless Services Council of Southern Indiana. During the past year, he had been a member of the Commission’s Transition Team with Mr. Weir and others. Mr. Reising recently returned to full-time congregational ministry as Pastor for the faith community at Zion Evangelical United Church of Christ in downtown Evansville.

Timothy Weir is Director of Public Affairs, Communications and Marketing for Evansville-based Accuride Corporation. He leads government relations, corporate communications, marketing communications and community relations functions for the $700 million supplier of components for commercial vehicles. An active community volunteer, Mr. Weir co-chaired the Commission’s Transition Team in 2014 and had served since December as the Commission’s interim administrator following the retirement of Commission founder and Resource Coordinator Luzada Hayes. Mr. Weir is a member of the Board of Directors of Evansville’s Celebration of Diversity Distinguished Lecture Series, serves as Communications Chair for Leadership Evansville and its VOICE Community Visioning initiative, and was volunteer chairman of the City of Evansville’s Clean Evansville initiative during 2012-2013.

About The Commission on Homelessness

The Evansville-Vanderburgh Commission on Homelessness was formed in 2005 to oversee and facilitate the implementation of Destination: Home, The 10-Year Plan to End Homelessness and ensure that its strategies continue moving forward. The Commission was established by ordinances passed by both the Evansville City Council (February 2005) and the Vanderburgh County Commissioners (December 2004). The Commission’s purpose is to provide local leadership on the issue of homelessness; make non-binding recommendations to City and County government, nonprofit organizations, and other interested agencies concerning the Destination: Home plan and efforts to end homelessness and oversee progress of the Plan’s implementation. It also makes similar recommendations on other issues of importance concerning homelessness in our community.
