For whatever reason, people seem to think the Ohio River is one big dumpster leaving our river fronts covered in an unsightly mess of plastic bottles, cans, and any number of other bits of garbage. It takes a team effort to keep in clean, which is why officials in Henderson are hoping you'll jump in and lend a hand during their annual "Ohio River Sweep."

The sweep is a small part of a much larger cleanup effort that crosses six states and covers not only the Ohio River itself, but the smaller bodies of water along the way that feed into it.

Interested volunteers are asked to meet at Hays Boat Ramp beginning at 9:00 a.m. with the cleanup scheduled to last until 11:00 a.m. According to the City of Henderson website, "Volunteers should wear clothes that can get dirty and closed toe shoes. Trash bags and a limited number of gloves are provided. Each volunteer will receive a free T-shirt."

This is a great opportunity for youth or church groups, scouts, and other organizations that require members to meet a certain amount of community service hours to pitch in and not only meet their goals, but also help keep the Henderson river front looking spectacular.
