City Council member Stephanie Brinkerhoff-Riley today released a recording she made of the exit interview with the State Board of Accounts regarding the 2012 audit of the City of Evansville’s books.

The recording has stirred a lot of controversy as allegations have flown about the leak of the recording to the City-County Observer last week. Questions have been raised about the legality of recording or sharing information from that meeting.

According to Brinkerhoff-Riley the auditors gave the city an overall “qualified opinion” with adverse opinions.” A qualified opinion means tat the accounting practices do not comply with generally accepted accounting principles.

A key point in the audit is that the city’s payroll account has not been balanced. There was also a flag raised over monthly bank reconciliations.

The exit interview was held in March of this year and Brinkerhoff-Riley expressed her frustration with waiting for the city to share the audit results with the public.

Tonight’s city council meeting could be an interesting one as council president John Friend will be absent, leaving control of the meeting in the hands of vice-president Brinkerhoff-Riley.
