Just when you thought we were done with the ‘Chronicles of Narnia’ film series — you know, because the third installment came out more than five years ago — The C.S. Lewis Company announces development on a ‘Chronicles of Narnia 4.’ Although interest has now diverted to more fruitful franchises, can the recent addition of ‘Life of Pi‘ writer David Magee turn things around?

Magee has been nominated for Oscars twice in his lifetime — one for 2004′s ‘Finding Neverland’ and again for Ang Lee‘s critically acclaimed ‘Life of Pi’ last year — and now The C.S. Lewis Company (partnering with the Mark Gordon Company to produce the film) announced that he’ll tackle the world of author C.S. Lewis’ Narnia.

Said Magee in a statement:

I have always loved ‘The Chronicles of Narnia’ and I endlessly imagined myself finding my own passage into Narnia someday. All these years later, I’m getting to fulfill that wish just a little bit by writing the film adaptation of ‘The Silver Chair’ and could not be more excited about it.

It’s unclear whether all the members of the principal cast will return, considering nearly all look well beyond their teen years, though what we know of the story comes from the fourth novel in the original books. The official plot of ‘The Silver Chair’ reads: “Through dangers untold and caverns deep and dark, a noble band of friends is sent to rescue a prince held captive. But their mission to Underland brings them face-to-face with an evil more beautiful and more deadly than they ever expected.”

The ‘Chronicles of Narnia’ films began in the house of Disney, which produced the first two installments (‘The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe,’ ‘Prince Caspian’), and Fox, which also distributed ‘Life of Pi,’ took over for the third chapter (‘The Voyage of the Dawn Treader’). The first three films in the franchise grossed over $1.6 billion worldwide.
