Every week, Amanda Coburn from the Vanderburgh Humane Society sends me several pics of pets that are looking for a forever home. But, this email was a little different. It was a press release. The VHS is in the middle of a situation that YOU can help out with. Take a look!

This is what she sent me.......

The Vanderburgh Humane Society currently has over 200 cats in its care. We do not have a time limit for our animals, but we do only have so much space and so much manpower. We are lowering our cat adoption prices through August 8th to increase adoptions so that we can make space in our shelter to save more lives.

When people see a stray dog running the streets, most automatically assume that it belongs to someone and is lost. Cats running the streets, however, are typically seen as “strays” or “someone’s neighbor’s outside cat.” The VHS works very hard to change this perception, and to help people realize the value in being a cat parent. Through spaying and neutering cats, we hope to combat overpopulation of both domestic cats and local feral cat colonies. The problem remains: there are not enough homes. Until we can further promote the human-animal bond and educate people on cat behavior and the importance of spaying & neutering, homeless cats will continue to be euthanized.

For the next 2 weeks, kitten adoption fees will be reduced to $30 (40% off) or TWO kittens for $50 (buy one, get one free!) Normal adoption fees are $50 for kittens. This fee still includes the cat’s spay/neuter surgery, microchip, up-to-date vaccinations, and a sample bag of food to take home. Adopters will also receive a certificate for $25 off a checkup at a local full-service veterinary clinic, 30 free days of pet health insurance, and more.

The VHS currently has cats of all ages, sizes, colors, genders, and personalities. Our adoption counselors and staff can help match families with the perfect cat to meet their wants and needs.

Cats make the best pets! Even if you have never considered yourself a 'cat' person, go and spend some time with the cats at the VHS. They are sweet, quiet and independent. Perfect for busy families or singles.
