The C.K. Newsome Community Center gymnasium will open to kids ages 12-to-17 for Youth Recreation Hours. Starting Saturday, June 27th, and continuing through Saturday, August 1st, teens are encouraged to use the gym for basketball recreation from 1pm-4:30pm., based on age.

“We want to let everyone know that the doors to the Community Center gym are open to our youth and we welcome the community back to C.K. Newsome with organized and structured events like Patio Night and Youth Recreation Hours,” said Parks and Recreation Department Sports Director Lisa Wube.

The schedule below outlines the times when the gym will be open to youth:

  • 1pm-2pm:  ages 12-13 years old
  • 2:15pm-3:15pm:  ages 14-15 years old
  • 3:30pm-4:30pm:  ages 16-17 years old

All participants are required to have identification, and the C.K. Newsome staff will have kits available to produce identification for teens without proper IDs.

Volunteer instructors will be present to provide basketball instruction, leadership and team building opportunities. Security will be present during Youth Recreation Hours to ensure the Community Center is a fun and safe environment for children to enjoy physical activities.

Thanks to a generous donations by the Evansville Parks Foundation, Inc., game jerseys will be provided to players and a game clock will be used keep score.
