BREAKING NEWS: Virginia Tech on Lockdown
Virginia Tech appears to be reliving its worst nightmare as reports of a shooting have placed the university under lockdown.
The suspected shooter, who the institution’s website describes as a white male in gray sweatpants, neon green brimmed gray hat and a maroon hoodie with a backpack, has reportedly shot a police officer and is still at large. While details of the shooting are still unclear, the school’s newspaper The Collegiate is reporting the cop is dead.
Allegedly, a second victim is reported to have been shot in the parking lot and Brian Walls, a school employee, told CNN rescue workers were attempting to resuscitate an unidentified person.
“There is an active campus alert in Blacksburg. Everyone should seek shelter or stay where you are. Blacksburg Transit service is suspended until the alert is lifted,” read the school’s website.
This alert unearths memories of the disturbing massacre that occurred on campus in 2007. In an act that still affects Americans across the country, Seung-Hui Cho killed 33 students and faculty members before committing suicide. Representatives of the university met in court on Wednesday in the hopes of hindering $55,000 in fines associated with the traumatic event.
Reports continue to come out of Virginia Tech as more information comes to light.
