Indiana health officials confirm an Evansville resident is the latest victim of the West Nile Virus. 

Amy Reel from the State Department of Health says this is the first person to die from West Nile Virus in the state for 2012.  Details about the victim, including a name, were not released to the public.  Vanderburgh was one of seven Indiana counties with confirmed cases of the disease.   There are now 6 cases in 5 counties: Fulton, Hamilton, Jackson, Marion, and Monroe.

No vaccine or cure exists for West Nile Virus, an illness which can cause fever, headache, body ache, rash and swollen lymph glands.

The first case of West Nile Virus in Indiana was reported in 2002.  11 people died from the illness that year.
