ORIGINAL STORY

The Evansville Police Department is on the scene at Central High School in Evansville after multiple reports say a man was found dead in the grass on campus.

Evansville Courier & Press reporter, Richard Gootee was on the scene speaking with police and kept up to date with the situation on Twitter. According to Gootee, authorities were first alerted about the body after he found by a student arriving on campus.

As of approximately 8:15 a.m., it was unknown at the time whether or not the deceased was a Central High School student according to 44 News reporter, Amanda Chodnicki.

Evansville Police sent several officers to the scene in the minutes following the discovery, however a representative for the Department, speaking to Gootee, said the heavy presence was for logistic purposes only, and the scene was not considered threatening to the school, its students, faculty, or the neighborhood surrounding campus.

This story will be updated as more information is released.
