It may be awhile yet before 'Boardwalk Empire' season 4 pours out any footage or photos, but the latest role reportedly being added to the season practically dedicated his life to gathering evidence. According to SpoilerTV, HBO has begun casting the role of a 27 year-old J. Edgar Hoover to appear in 'Boardwalk Empire' season 4, potentially recurring over the season.

The report claims the "humorless" character only features in one major scene thus far, but has the potential to recur. The timing would certainly fit, as 'Boardwalk Empire' has been said to jump forward to the year 1924, in which Hoover was made director of the Bureau of Investigation following President Warren Harding's death. Who knows, maybe Leonardo DiCaprio will get tired of chasing Oscars and take his J. Edgar to TV!

So far, 'Boardwalk Empire' season 4 has only revealed the casting of ‘The Wire‘ star and all-around HBO vet Domenic Lombardozzi as Al Capone's elder brother Ralph. Series creator and show-runner Terence Winter told reporters that ‘Boardwalk Empire’ season 4 would move into 1924, often seen as the year gangsters like Lucky Luciano and Al Capone truly came into their own.

Winter also previously confirmed of ‘Boardwalk Empire’ season 4 that actors Gretchen Mol (Gillian Darmody) and Kelly MacDonald would indeed return, despite their ambiguous presences at the end of season 3, while Michael Shannon (Nelson Van Alden) would have a stronger presence as a member of Al Capone’s crew.
