From the office of Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke

Scheller’s Fitness and Cycling has partnered with the City of Evansville Department of Parks and Recreation to install three bicycle repair stations along the Greenway. The bike repair stations will be located at Garvin Park, Sunset Park and at the Shirley James Gateway Plaza and Trailhead.

“Installation of the bicycle repair stations is part of our plan to continue improving the city’s park facilities by providing additional amenities, which are valuable for residents who use the Greenway to have the best experience possible,” said Parks Director Denise Johnson. “The stations will be the first amenity directly associated with those who travel the Greenway on bicycles.”

The stations will contain all of the necessary tools to perform basic bicycle repairs. Each tool set will be equipped with Phillips-head and flat-head screwdrivers, a complete set of Allen wrenches, a headset wrench, pedal wrench, tire levers and a tire pump. All tools are connected to a central post by stainless steel cables and tamperproof fasteners. Bicycles can be suspended from the post allowing the pedals and wheel to spin freely while making adjustments. The stations are built to last and designed to survive all kinds of weather.

“These stations have been a great success in our other store markets,” said Kyle Rickenbaugh, manager of the local Scheller’s Fitness and Cycling center. “Locally, it is a way for us to give back to the community.”

All three bicycle repair stations are scheduled to be installed on Tuesday, Sept. 16. For additional information, contact Parks Director Denise Johnson at 812-435-6141.
