BBB To Host ID Theft Prevention Event

On Saturday, October 17, 2015, BBBs across North America will host a helpful identity theft prevention event called Secure Your ID Day. Your BBB® will be one of them.

We’ve done several blog posts on identity theft in the past, and it continues to be a prevalent problem costing the 12.7 million victims, in 2014 a total of $16 billion, according to a Javelin Strategy & Research Study. According to that same study, in 2014, there was a new victim of identity fraud every two seconds.

We want to help you protect yourself from Identity Fraud/Theft by protecting your personal information. If you don’t need a document that contains personal information, destroy it. Your BBB is participating in this FREE nationwide event to help you do just that. Bring up to 2 bags or boxes of documents (25 lbs. or less) that you want shredded to the event on October 17^th. Documents collected will be loaded on a ShredX truck at the conclusion of our event and then will be taken to an off-site shredding facility. Collected items will then be disposed of properly and securely, through shredding, then recycling. Your BBB will also provide additional identity theft prevention tips, and Townsquare Media will be on site with a remote.
