Dave Westrich

I grew up in Cincinnati, beginning my radio career at my high school radio station, WNSD. I landed in Evansville in 1980.  Throughout the 80's and early 90's, I learned the ropes of radio in several different positions on WGBF AM and WKDQ.  My radio hiatus came in spring of '92 when I attended U.S.I. to become an educator.  I acquired my B.S. and began teaching shortly thereafter.  Although I had a great time with the kids in North Spencer, I made the decision to return to the airwaves in June of 2011.  Now I'm spending the afternoons with you! I have an absolutely wonderful wife, Jenny (we met at the very first Mike Harvey sock hop in 1990),  two awesome kids, and some little critters to keep us all company.

Vectren Phone Scam is Looking for Evansville and Tri-State Victims – Don’t Be One!

A number of scams have been victimizing Tri-State residents of late.  I, personally, have received the phone calls from Florida, and even from myself (how is that possible?!) about my Mastercard (which I don't even have!).  Now Vectren is warning us about another scam that has surfaced.  It seems that "someone" is making phone calls to Vectren customers claiming to be a representative of the company and wanting an immediate payment or the service to their home or business will be disconnected.

Sky Zone Trampoline Park Coming to Evansville

The trampoline in our back yard provides hours of bouncing fun for Emily and Elliot.  Elliot bounces simply to bounce around.  Emily does that too, but she also practices her cheers and tumbling.  We all realize that bouncing on a trampoline is lots of fun, but it’s also great exercise for the muscles and cardiovascular system.  And as great as it is to have one of these, it doesn’t compare to what’s coming for Evansville area residents – a Sky Zone Trampoline Park.

Severe Weather Season Window Has Just Opened for Evansville and Tri-State

It seems that living in the Evansville and Tri-State area means severe weather can strike at any time on any day of any month.  However, when the beginning of April rolls around, you know that the severe weather season window is opening with storms likely to follow.  Bada-bing, bada-boom, today is April 2 and the severe weather threat is rearing its ugly head, with severe weather as a possibility tomorrow.  That's why, as I was driving through Chandler, this contraption caught my eye.

Birds of a Feather Get Shot Together – if They’re Turkeys

It's just about wild turkey hunting time in the Tri-State, and just like the lyrics that are sung in "Chevy Van," by Sammy Johns, "...and that's all right with me!"  Sorry, but I don't like wild turkeys.  They are, in my mind, just like deer - a nuisance.  They wander around aimlessly with no real purpose, running onto rural roadways and causing automobile accidents.  They spread ticks and lice, too.  So, I say, let the hunting games begin!

Work Zone Safety Week in the Evansville Area and Throughout Indiana

Last evening as I was driving home on I-164, I witnessed a scene that reminded me that this is National Work Zone Awareness Week in Evansville and throughout Indiana.  The scene, located between the Lloyd Expressway and Morgan Ave. on I-164, depicts the number of highway workers killed this past year while performing their duties.  It's purpose is to remind us to slow down and be extra careful in highway work zones.

My Heart is Happy That I’m Married – for Love and for Heart Health

Okay, I could write a book-length testimonial for why I'm married, especially to my wife, Jenny, but the point of this blog is not to gush about my wife (although I'm sure she would like it), it's to point out why being married to someone you truly love is good for your heart.  Yes, love can "break" your heart, but it's also apparently one great way to keep your ticker tickin'!
