I like to eat bananas occasionally and I like them well enough, but I wouldn't say that I'm a banana lover. If you are a banana lover, this news may greatly disturb you. (It certainly is bad enough to make the monkeys go ape!) There is currently a blight on bananas in Asia that has now been found in Mozambique (Africa) and Jordan (Middle East), and the concern is that it may reach Latin America. If that happens, the Cavendish banana that we all can find in our local supermarkets may disappear.
When people in Europe began making decorations for their Christmas trees, many of the decorations were already made from food, including cookies and candy. Straight, white sticks of sugar candy, called candy canes, became a favorite decoration around the 17th century.
8 year-old Addisen Newman has a smile that could outshine a fully lighted Christmas tree! During this season of giving, Addisen and her family hope that you'll help her in her fight against a rare cancer called Wilms tumor, a cancer that begins in a child's kidney. Currently Addisen is in Riley Hospital in Indianapolis with a hard fight and long road ahead of her. But you can help and have a great time, too, this Saturday
Well intentioned? Yes. Smart move. NOT! The masses are rising up against the misstep that took place in Canton, Ohio's local Wal-Mart. Bins were placed inside the store with a sign that read, "Please donate food items here so Associates in need can enjoy Thanksgiving dinner." "Boom!" The metaphorical land mine exploded.
A month ago I wrote a blog about the name change coming for the street running from N. Main St. into Garvin Park. Bosse Field's official address changes, too. Bosse Field is now located at 23 Don Mattingly Way. That was the number on Don's New York Yankees uniform. Additionally, Garvin Park's address is now 45 Don Mattingly Way. This Saturday, Don Mattingly himself will be in Evansville for the dedication of the street name change and a monument placed inside Garvin Park in his honor.
Go to this restaurant in Los Angeles without knowing what's inside and you may get flushed - in the face! The Magic Restroom restaurant is a place you go only if you know what to expect to sit on - toilets! It's America's first toilet-themed eatery. No, I'm not kidding.
If you like to be a thrifty shopper, then you may not want to purchase your trick or treating candy just yet. Wait until it's closer to Halloween because the closer the holiday gets, the more candy bargains you'll find. That's just one tip for saving money when it's time for the ghosts and goblins to come calling on your doorstep. Here are some more tips:
The street running from N. Main St. into Garvin Park now has a new name, which means that Bosse Field now has a new address! Yesterday, the parks board resolution declared that Bosse Field's official address is now 23 Don Mattingly Way, which was Don's number on his New York Yankees uniform.
If you see a bunch (zillions!) of people running around Downtown Evansville Sunday afternoon, don't panic! They aren't aliens from another world seeking human sacrifice, they are simply participating in the 4th Annual Kruckemeyer & Cohn Diamond Dash!
