Jon Favreau, the man behind the first two 'Iron Man' films and 'Cowboys and Aliens,' is looking to go the indie route with his next feature. Favreau is currently in negotiations to write, star and direct the indie film 'Chef.'
We've been hearing a lot of news about sequels recently (including '21 Jump Street 2' and 'Fast and Furious 7'), but those have been for hit films or are continuing a franchise that has already proved successful enough to rush. Today it's been announced that studios are working on sequels for 'The Heat' and 'Ride Along,' two films that haven't even hit theaters yet.
'Thor: The Dark World' looks to be bigger and better than the original movie!
'Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story' was a pretty funny movie that was a surprise hit in 2004. It pitted Vince Vaughn and his gang of outsiders against Ben Stiller and his corporate stooges in a winner-takes-all game of dodgeball. When a film does as well as 'Dodgeball' did (it made over $100 million at the box office), a sequel is practically guaranteed, and though it took a decade, it looks like they're finally getting around to it.
It's easy for an actor to get trapped in certain kinds of roles, and after two movies playing the traitorous Loki (and with a third film on the way), it's nice to see that Tom Hiddleston has been offered the lead in 'The Crow.'
The developmental process in Hollywood can be slow and arduous, something Martin Scorsese is well aware of. 'Gangs of New York' was a film he wanted to make in 1979, but it took twenty-three years to finally get it to the big screen. It seems that he's going through a similar struggle to adapt 'Silence,' based on the novel by Shusaku Endo, as he has been attached to it since 1991. But now there's light at the end of this tunnel.
Long in development, Jason Segel and director Jake Kasdan have been trying to get the film 'Sex Tape' going for over a year. When we last reported the duo were looking to reunite with their 'Bad Teacher' star Cameron Diaz, and now -- a year later -- it looks like that's finally going to happen.
It's been almost a decade since Keanu Reeves wrapped up 'The Matrix' trilogy, and over five years since his 'The Day the Earth Stood Still' remake, and in the interim Reeves has kept quiet. Sure, he's done some indie films, and produced a documentary, but he's been off the big screen for a while. But now he's signed on to star in 'Passengers,' which will return him to science fiction.
Though this was rumored last year, it looks like a sequel to 2012's '21 Jump Street' is moving forward. Sony has confirmed that they're going to make the film and that it will have a release sometime in 2014.
Though DreamWorks Animation has had some hits ('Shrek 2,' believe it or not, is one of the top ten highest grossing films of all time), their last film at Paramount ,'Rise of the Guardians,' was such a flop that it caused the studio to reduce ranks. Fortunately that may have just been some bad luck as their most recent film 'The Croods' is so successful that the studio has just announced a sequel.
