Chris Hubbard, owner of 40LB Sledgehammer Productions, is looking to amp up your weekend! Over the course of July 18-20th, he has packed in events that include riding, running, and racing along the riverfront for his second annual Run & Ride Weekend.

Hubbard shares, “It’s a great, fun weekend of events. Something for everyone. We have a free bike ride on Riverside Drive, Dan’s Comp has their trick BMX demonstration team performing free shows, we have the original Evansville Relay Marathon, and Sunday is the bike race. It’s also free to watch. While you’re there you can take in some great food from our vendor area. We have numerous local groups selling items to raise money including- Reitz marching band, Bosse’s marching band, PC Pound Puppies animal shelter, and Restore Outreach just to name a few.”

Last year, they had over 200 runners and 125 cyclist plus all the spectators. This year they’d like to double those numbers. With the new vendors’ booths, they expect a large public turnout. In terms of what participants can look forward to, Hubbard shares, “FUN! We pride ourselves on doing quality events, and this will be no different. Last year I started the first relay marathon here. It’s based around teams completing 24 laps around the 1.09 mile course. You can have a 4 person, 2 person, or solo team. I think it was one of the best new events in town.”  When asked if people can walk, Hubbard shares that they have a 5 hour cutoff, so it’s possible.

In terms of the courses, Hubbard shares, “It’s challenging. Using the boat ramp offers some elevation change that challenges both the runners and riders. Being downtown in the evening for the run is unique. Bike racing on the bricks of Main St is also very unique.” A portion of the proceeds from the Run & Ride weekend go to support the Vanderburgh County CASA program.
