If you were hoping we might luck out and miss having another hot, humid Tri-State summer, the National Weather Service’s has some data you’re not going to care for.

According to their Climate Prediction Center, a majority of the country (including the Tri-State area, of course) is expected to see temperatures rise above the normal average for the months of May, June, and July.

Forecasters based their information on temperature observations between 1981-2010, marking the areas with the highest likelihood of seeing above average temperatures in dark orange then fanning out from there.

For what it’s worth, the average temperature for Evansville during the months of May, June, and July is 72.07 degrees. The National Weather Service lists an “above average” temperature for our area as 72.70, not even a full degree. Also keep in mind, going by the color scale in the bottom right corner of the graphic above, the chance of seeing above average temps during these months is somewhere between 40-50%. Knowing how unpredictable weather can be, there is a chance we’ll have a normal summer temperature-wise (which still means hot and humid). Either way, start stocking up on sunscreen now.

For information on this three-month outlook, check out the full report on the Climate Prediction Center website.
